From a young age and throughout my life, I have very much enjoyed spending time in nature and on the water. When I am outdoors, being fully present feels natural and has provided me with the most amazing experiences.

As I recovered from serious injuries in 2022, I wanted to make some improvements and changes in my life. Although I had never meditated before I completed an introductory mindfulness program that my doctor recommended. I had also been studying neuroplasticity, Buddhism and other topics that contributed to my journey and healing. I started to develop an expanded sense of awareness and enjoyed meditating regularly.

I wanted to learn more so I started a serious self-study program and came across a book that mentioned Jon Kabat-Zinn and MBSR. As I was researching him, I discovered the Palouse Mindfulness website. I thought it was too good to be true because of everything that was offered. I began the program and found it to be very helpful with some of my struggles and injuries but also with all of life. I very much connected with the content and meditations and began my journey by completing the course and then took several other mindfulness-based intervention courses and programs. I haven’t stopped my mindfulness training or learning since I started.

The Palouse MBSR course dramatically changed me and my life in such an amazingly positive way for which I am eternally grateful. I continue to find a real sense of presence in nature, and in my everyday life through mindfulness. I remain consistent in my practice with daily meditation, reading and continue to study. I feel like my journey has just begun and know that, for me, it is a lifelong path.

Community does not necessarily mean living face-to-face with others; rather, it means never losing the awareness that we are connected to each other.
     - Parker Palmer

You are whole and also part of larger and larger circles of wholeness you may not even know about.

You are never alone.
And you already belong.
You belong to humanity.
You belong to life.
You belong to this moment, this breath.
     - Jon Kabat-Zinn

When all that we understand of self and world comes together in the center place called heart, we are more likely to find the courage to act humanely on what we know.
     - Parker Palmer

In Louisville, at the corner of Fourth and Walnut, in the center of the shopping district, I was suddenly overwhelmed by the realization that I loved all those people . . . even though we were total strangers. It was like waking from a dream of separateness.
     - Thomas Merton

You are not a drop in the ocean,
You are the entire ocean in a drop.
     - Rumi

We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.
     - Martin Luther King

I would say that there exist a thousand unbreakable links between each of us and everything else, and that our dignity and our changes are one. The farthest star and the mud at our feet are family; and there is no decency or sense in honoring one thing, or a few things, and then closing the list. The pine tree, the leopard, the Platte River, and ourselves – we are at risk together, or we are on our way to a sustainable world together. We are each other’s destiny.
