José hosts a monthly Spanish-language zoom meeting (see Reuniones en Zoom).

Since I was a child I have been curious and concerned with knowing truth. I also intuitively had the belief that within each human being there was a certain potential that went beyond the mundane. Through the years and the setbacks that life offers us, this intuition was transformed into the search for answers cognitively, first by looking into philosophy and subsequently psychology due to my professional training (both disciplines had already given me a feeling for Buddhist philosophy and psychology).

In 2019 I decided to begin formal daily practice, as a result of participating in a small course on Compassion-Based Therapy, a self-taught practice without expectations of results, which I believe made the path easier for me. A year later a small work crisis occurred coinciding with the pandemic, then I found Palouse by chance and started MBSR which provided even more meaning to my practice, in addition to connecting with the generosity of the project for which I will always be grateful.

All of these experiences help me today to walk the path with a beginner's mind and a little more confidence, to take small baby steps that allow me to live more in peace, with more equanimity, more acceptance, to be more connected with myself and the environment, and to cherish freedom. This is because I experience that the state of “being” versus “doing” is a state that contributes to a silent revolution towards liberation. For this reason I share the learnings that the path offers me, in case it can be useful to others, but also because it helps me integrate them better.

Community does not necessarily mean living face-to-face with others; rather, it means never losing the awareness that we are connected to each other.
     - Parker Palmer

You are whole and also part of larger and larger circles of wholeness you may not even know about.

You are never alone.
And you already belong.
You belong to humanity.
You belong to life.
You belong to this moment, this breath.
     - Jon Kabat-Zinn

When all that we understand of self and world comes together in the center place called heart, we are more likely to find the courage to act humanely on what we know.
     - Parker Palmer

In Louisville, at the corner of Fourth and Walnut, in the center of the shopping district, I was suddenly overwhelmed by the realization that I loved all those people . . . even though we were total strangers. It was like waking from a dream of separateness.
     - Thomas Merton

You are not a drop in the ocean,
You are the entire ocean in a drop.
     - Rumi

We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.
     - Martin Luther King

I would say that there exist a thousand unbreakable links between each of us and everything else, and that our dignity and our changes are one. The farthest star and the mud at our feet are family; and there is no decency or sense in honoring one thing, or a few things, and then closing the list. The pine tree, the leopard, the Platte River, and ourselves – we are at risk together, or we are on our way to a sustainable world together. We are each other’s destiny.
